Dr.
Gvozden
Dr. Gvozden is a board certified
pediatrician and fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has been
in practice for over 20 years. He moved from Brazil in 1978. His
training was at the Children's Hospital National Medical Center, Johns Hopkins
Hospital and Sinai Hospital. He has additional expertise in dermatology
and attention disorders. He is currently on staff at Anne Arundel Medical
Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is an associate professor of
pediatrics at the University of Maryland.

Cathy Gvozden
Cathy has been
practicing as a pediatric nurse practitioner for 15 years. She earned a
bachelor of science degree in nursing and masters pediatric primary care from
the University of Maryland. Her training was at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
She has extensive experience in pediatric intensive care.
She and Dr. Gvozden reside in Millersville with their 4 children. |

Monica Hughes
Monica joined
Gvozden Pediatrics in January 2001. She has been a pediatric nurse
practitioner in Annapolis for 15 years. She has a bachelor of science
degree in nursing and a masters in pediatric primary care both from Boston
University. Her training was at the Children's Hospital in Boston.
She has many years in pediatric neurology and adolescent care. She lives
in Severna Park with her husband and 2 children.

What is a Nurse
Practitioner?
A pediatric nurse practitioner is a
registered nurse with a bachelor of science degree, extensive acute care
experience and a master's degree in nursing. It is a position that is
licensed and registered by the state in order to provide independent care to
sick and well children. Although under a physician's supervision, nurse
practitioners are capable and expected to deliver the same quality care as a
pediatrician.

There is a pediatric
registered nurse available each day for phone triage or advice. Each of
our nurses has a minimum of 6 years professional experience as well as personal
experience raising their children. Each nurse is capable of providing
advice on illness and treatment, emergencies and behavior. They work
closely with the providers throughout the day and often seek consultation with a
provider in order to provide expert care.
